Backyard Wedding

by Jenelle Dronkers

We recently shot a mock wedding reception at Thriving Ink & Co.’s outdoor event venue, The Backyard at 520 Main, featuring a collaboration of local Bay Area talent and services.

We reached out to Pleasanton event vendors to help us put together a the shoot, wanting to support community wedding planning.  Inspired by alternative, outdoor, and Do-It-Yourself-style wedding trends, we designed the reception with a rustic yet elegant springtime vibe, a perfect fit for our intimate venue.  We hope this will encourage bridal parties to use local vendors, because sometimes there are amazing resources right in your backyard. :)

Backyard Wedding: DIY Fabric Scrap Garland

by Jenelle Dronkers

The big day is almost here and my back is aching from bending over ribbons and fabrics for hours. But damn was that easy. Check out my DIY instructions for our fabric scrap garland.

I had originally seen this idea on www.etsy.northgeorgia.com and decided to mix it up a bit.

I picked the cheapest fabrics I could find that went with out lemony and woodsy color palette. The idea is to use scraps of fabric and knot them on a ribbon or sting of some sort. It is very simple. A couple of the fabrics were picked up from the world’s best garage sale and the others were grabbed at the local fabric store. I even used a dress I picked up for a buck at said world’s best garage sale.

I grabbed my super sharp scissors (say that three times fast) and cut the fabrics in 1 inch strips. S0me were thicker than others.

I then grabbed some beautiful brown ribbon and tied the fabrics in knots in alternating colors and textures. I left a foot or so in between the bunches of fabrics so the color of the ribbon would show. It will also look great hanging vertically in rows (behind a dessert buffet perhaps?).

Tip: Don’t let your pup chew on your ribbon.

Here is the final product! All around an easy and fun project (especially since I watched old episodes of Psychic Kids on A&E.)
