Mom style

by lo

My mom loves shopping for home.  She’s got a quirky style, blending kitschy European elements with color and family mementos.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Jenelle’s Cave

by Jenelle Dronkers

I did you all a favor and opened all my curtains, including the light blocking shades to give you a little glimpse into my room. My room is my sanctuary. I spend a great deal of time in there (Okay, maybe i am blogging from bed right now.)

One of my favorite pieces in my room is the antique perfume tray I was given after my great-aunt passed away. It also had a matching hand mirror but that was broken in one of the many moves I have been through in the last year and a half. Currently I reach for my Daisy Marc Jacobs perfume above all others. The mirror was probably $15 bucks at Ikea and the box of matches is from a lovely little store in Half Moon Bay. I just loved the cute yellow birdies and had to have them.

The fun flowers were from my dad because he is awesome.

On my nightstand I have the books I alternate between at the moment. Currently I am reading all of Nina Garcia’s fashion books. On the nightstand I also have some old photos of best friends.

This is the world’s greatest chair! I love to sit and stare out the window or listen for the coyotes that come by every full moon (I used to think they were the freaky neighbor kids.) Please note my fabulous plum velvet curtains I scored on sale at Super Target in Austin, Texas. These bad boys have been in three different houses and I have plans to bring them to the next! I also have a few Papaya Art prints in my room from Thriving Ink & Co.

This is my hand-carved sign I picked up at Different People in downtown Truckee.

Mac Bam and I have matching headboards from Urban Outfitters.

This is Ruby’s space. She’s spoiled.

Backyard Wedding: getting bridal

by lo

We’re pulling all of the finishing touches together for this mock wedding photo shoot, and we’ve gotten down to the details of the bride…who will be played by yours truly.  And as someone who doesn’t anticipate being married any time soon or having a wedding ever, I must admit that playing dress up is kind of fun.

We got a little panicked when things when our plan to borrow a dress from a local bridal shop didn’t pan out, so we got on Etsy to look for local alternatives.  After all, we’re highlighting an “alternative” wedding space.  We found a gorgeous tea length tutu (pictured above) from TutusChic, designed by former ballet dancer Sarah Arnold.  She graciously rushed the order for us, and I couldn’t be more excited to wear it.  I honestly want to flounce around in it all the time, preferably with combat boots and a beater tank or plain tee and maybe a feathered headdress (and then maybe I’ll go hang out on top of a car)…but that’s just my inner fantasy editorial life talking.  For the wedding photo shoot, the tutu lends enough whimsy, so we’re keeping the top understated.

Another great local Etsy find was this Eucalyptus bark etched ring from PeripheryDesigns.

I’m working on a birdcage veil with modified instructions from this super simple DIY post on OnceWed.com.  And as for the shoes, I think they’ll be both borrowed and blue.
